Technology has profoundly impacted all industries—even the financial and banking sector, widely regarded as the 'mother of all industries,' which has undergone dramatic changes in recent years due to the rise of Internet finance (Fintech). Among emerging technologies, blockchain technology has attracted the most widespread attention recently; this year’s Government Policy Address and Budget Speech also devoted substantial coverage to it. What is blockchain? Blockchain is a shared, public ledger utilizing distributed ledger technology, dispersing data across multiple blocks so that no single entity can control it—ensuring transaction data is secure, transparent, and permanently recordable. In other words, blockchain is a technical solution for collectively maintaining a reliable database through decentralization. Blockchain technology integrates cryptography, mathematics, algorithms, and economic models, combined with peer-to-peer (P2P) networks and distributed consensus algorithms, to resolve synchronization issues inherent in traditional distributed databases—a foundational infrastructure integrating multidisciplinary technologies. Regionally, globally, blockchain investment is currently concentrated primarily in North America and Europe, ranking Asia third—with China leading within Asia. Instructor Profile: Louis is a partner at RedSo, a software development company that built the mobile app and set-top box app for TVB’s myTVSuper service. He graduated with a degree in Computer Science from The Chinese University of Hong Kong and has over ten years of experience in the IT industry. He led his company to become the first Google Cloud Platform Partner in Hong Kong and serves as an organizer for the technical community—the Google Cloud Platform User Group in Hong Kong—promoting Google Cloud technologies to fellow developers. In addition to technical expertise, his responsibilities extend to marketing and business aspects, particularly possessing solid experience in concert ticketing platform operations. As a technology enthusiast, he recognized early on the bright prospects of a blockchain-based economy and drove his R&D team to explore the technology by building several prototypes on both public and private blockchain systems. He occasionally writes about this technology for local internet media and 3C-related magazines. With hands-on blockchain experience and real-world application expertise, Louis is well-equipped to deliver both fundamental concepts and the latest knowledge about this rapidly evolving technology.
