In this workshop, participants will create their own personal visual diaries with materials, tools, and tips provided during the workshop. "We must elevate people's level of desire in order to have a beautiful future. Design has the ability to influence the underlying currents of desire." — Kenya Hara, 'The Education of Desire' Behind every design lies a certain desire or design philosophy. In response to everyday observations and experiences, countless designers have used journals to collect, organize, and record their current insights, shaping their envisioned design perspectives for the future. A visual diary, a container that simultaneously absorbs and generates ideas, often becomes a fascinating work in itself, shaped by each author's habits and style. The "Yearning and Organizing—Visual Diary Workshop" will explore with participants the various possibilities and meanings of the journal as an interface, draw inspiration from master designers' journal examples, and use on-site materials, tools, and methods to begin creating a personalized visual diary.
