'Guest Insights' invites you to join our stellar team of explorers—embarking on a journey to experience 'The Orbit of Hope' from fresh perspectives and in diverse forms, where art and the cosmos converge. Our inaugural guided tour is led by Lee Boon Ying, former Director of the Hong Kong Observatory and artist, who will explore how astronomy inspires new reflections on 'hope'. Drawing upon his deep scientific background and curiosity, he will introduce two fundamental physics concepts—entropy and the Doppler effect—and methods for studying stellar evolution and galactic motion, guiding visitors to reflect on change, distance, and connection, thereby inspiring our shared existence on Earth. With his lifelong curiosity and expertise, he brings forward two concepts—entropy and the Doppler effect. These methods for investigating stellar evolution and galaxy motions prompt us to contemplate change, distance, and connection, and to consider how these cosmic notions might inspire our shared lives here on Earth. The walkthrough and Q&A will last 45 minutes. About the Guest Lee Boon Ying (Boon) worked for 30 years at the Hong Kong Observatory, serving as its Director before retirement. After retiring, he enrolled in a fine arts degree programme jointly offered by the Hong Kong Art School and the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. Upon graduation, he co-founded Yrellag Gallery on Hong Kong’s Mid-Levels with fellow art students, supporting young and emerging artists. In addition to painting, Boon actively creates artworks using eco-friendly materials such as cardboard and everyday objects. His artistic philosophy integrates science and art, embracing minimalism and seeking fulfillment through the transformation process in the pursuit of beauty and technique. Boon continues to write for print and digital media on topics including weather and climate, and regularly shares his views on climate change through broadcasts on RTHK.
