King George V ascended the British throne in 1910 and held his coronation in 1911. It was not until 1919 that Hong Kong currency bearing his portrait was issued, and the denomination was only one cent. Subsequently, one-cent copper coins were issued in 1923, 1924, 1925, and 1926 respectively. When reissued in 1931, the size of the one-cent copper coin was reduced. In both 1933 and 1934, smaller one-cent copper coins and five-cent silver coins were issued. In 1935, ten-cent and five-cent nickel coins were issued for the first time. In 1936, the last ten-cent nickel coin bearing his portrait was issued.
